In the 90's (93?) the US stopped all nuclear testing and we stopped building new nuclear weapons. LANL's primary job now is stewardship... That is, making sure our existing arsenal remains effective as a weapon of mass destruction (er, I mean deterrant)

cant test the bombs, how do we know they work? The analogy was given of a special emergency phone... you needed to confirm it worked, but, you couldnt ACTUALLY make a call..
